Wildlife
Whether on safari in Africa, in the open plains of the United States, or the jungles of Central America, wildlife flourishes.
A multitude of specialized photography techniques, practices, and gear are used to respectfully capture the wonder of these wild animals.
Birds
Bird watching has long been a relaxing way to observe nature. Photographing these wonderful species requires an immense amount of determination and patience - and one wouldn’t turn away a little luck.
Landscapes
Across all seven continents, the experience of capturing wide vistas, intimate small scenes, and the interaction of humans and wildlife in their environment has always interested me.
It might be the light, colors, textures, subject, or just a feeling.
Culture & People
Experiencing new and different cultures is one of the most lasting aspects of travel. Realizing how much we all have in common while witnessing the colorful differences reminds one of the universality of life and the complexity of humanity.
Aerial
When planning a trip, I always look for aerial opportunities: typically a doors-off helicopter or a hot-air balloon.
For both wildlife and landscapes, it provides perspectives and opportunities not available on terra firma.
Underwater
With 20 years of scuba experience, I can say time underwater is just different. It somehow feels like it slows to a crawl, a 1-2 hour dive feeling like a day of adventures. While simultaneously going by so quickly, time to head back after what seemed like only moments to photograph a rare species.
Astrophotography
My fascination with the night sky started with a small telescope viewing the moon. It quickly turned to planets, deep space, and now for traveling, mostly the Milky Way.
Due to the remote nature of most of my travels, I find myself in some of the darkest skies on Earth.
